Faculty of Medicine Dies Natalis XVII: Real Impact on The Nation.
2018 sees the 17th year of Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Faculty of Medicine (FK) providing students with high-quality medical education in order to provide doctors that are professional, have a global outlook, are able to keep up with current technology, has Godly character, and are influential for the community. With an A accreditation, FK UPH boasts its main programs of neuroscience and neuroemergency, specialties that are highly demanded in hospitals. In addition, the students have garnered various achievements throughout the years in both national and international medical Olympiads.
In the Dies Natalis XVII on Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11, 2018 the civitas academia of UPH FK gathered to celebrate all the milestones they have been through. A series of events were conducted and all participants were rewarded with 60 SKPs (Participation Credit). All events were designed to define the educational identity in FK UPH – how UPH produces doctors that are able to use science and technology to serve their nation, Indonesia.
The first day features a Medicolegal Symposium, a symposium on medicine and how it relates to law. The topic is Protecting Yourself from Lawsuit Threats in Medical Practice, with Prof. Dr. dr. Herkutanto, Sp.F(K), SH, LLM, FACLM as the keynote speaker, and Doctor’s Ethics in Promotion and Advertisement by Dr. dr. Prijo Sidipratomo, Sp.Rad(K).
Aside from the symposium, there are also 16 workshops with various topics in the medical sector. Some of them are Hypertension Crisis, Surgical Role for Brain and Spine Tumor, and How to Think Like a Cardiologist: Secret of Physical Exam.
Dr. Andree Kurniawan, Sp. PD., Vice Dean of Student Affairs FK UPH, stated that the symposium and all workshops are guaranteed to be scientific, updated, and are research-based according to international symposium standards.
“This event involves almost all FK UPH units as well as stakeholders that will be beneficial for the future studies of students from other universities and non-specialist doctors in Jakarta and Banten,” dr. Andree explained.
This Dies Natalis also held the Scientific Abstract Competition (STACO), a competition that has been held since 2016. In this competition, the participants made an abstract for medical research. If the abstract is approved, it will be featured in UPH’s School of Medicine Journal, Medicinus.
In another competition – the Photography Competition and Exhibition, the participants learned to show their creativity through photography. This skill turns out to also be useful in medical sciences to assess a patient’s condition, make an informed diagnosis, and to decide a suitable medication for the patient. Dr. Andree hopes that all of the events in this year’s Dies Natalis can be a blessing and an influence for the people of Banten and Indonesia.
FK UPH looks to establish more partnerships with international universities in forms of student exchanges with the University of Melbourne and a summer program with Cambridge University. (it)
