FK UPH and Kemenristekdikti Held 3D Lecture Exploring the Greatness of the Human Brain and Threatening Diseases.

Jakarta, 28 June 2019 – Medical Faculty Universitas Pelita Harapan (FK UPH) and the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti) held 3D Cinema Lecturer with a topic of ‘Exploring the Greatness of the Human Brain and Threatening Diseases’ at Cinemaxx Studio 3, Lt. 5 Plaza Semanggi, Jakarta. This event was attended by Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Ak., the Minister of Kemenristekdikti, and his acting officer, as well as UPH Chancellor Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. and the deans and students of medical schools across Jakarta. The public lecture had 200 in attendance.

The lecture in 3D was delivered by Prof. Dr. Dr. dr. Eka J. Wahjoepramono, Sp.Bs., Ph.D., who is the Dean of FK UPH. It showcases the brain’s greatness in having two amazing systems: First, the brain plasticity, or the ability for the brain to reorganize after injuries or sickness; Second, the blood-brain barrier, or the ability for the brain to block poison or dangerous drugs so that it will not enter the brain.

In this opportune moment, Prof. Wahjoepramono also explained the cases he had handled as well as an explanation in case of several diseases that result in brain damage. Prof. Wahjoepramono demonstrated techniques in neurosurgery live that will help counter these cases.

In the public lecture, Prof. Wahjoepramono emphasized why this particular topic is important. Prof. Wahjoepramono emphasized that ‘Time is brain’, which means that you must not be late in handling problems in the brain, such as strokes. Prof. Wahjoepramono also reminded the importance in regular check-ups at a competent hospital so that any abnormalities will be countered early on.

In addition, for all future doctors, this public course was not only aimed in imparting knowledge but to also give stimulus for students so that they will be independent in exploring the brain and in becoming a quality doctor.

The Kemenristekdikti appreciates what has been done by FK UPH and pushes other universities to collaborate and create educational materials by making use of technology. With this, it will create more opportunities in creating a learning process such as this elsewhere and at any time. It is hoped that a Class Roomless and Borderless educational system will be realized.
