UPH Surabaya Law Student, Ika Fransisca, Wins 1st Place in DDTCNews 2024 Tax Article Writing Competition.

Ika Fransisca, a Kelas Karyawan student from the 2023 cohort of the Law Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) Surabaya Campus, has achieved remarkable success by winning 1st place in the DDTCNews 2024 Tax Article Writing Competition. This competition was part of the 17th anniversary celebrations of DDTC. The winners were officially announced on October 16, 2024.

As a result of her victory, Ika received a cash prize, and her article titled *”Redesigning VAT Collection for Small Businesses”* will be published in a book titled *Tax Ideas for Prabowo-Gibran* alongside other top articles. The competition attracted participants from various backgrounds, including civil servants, private employees, entrepreneurs, and students from across Indonesia.

In her article, Ika proposed an innovative and fair solution for collecting Value Added Tax (VAT) from small businesses, aiming to strike a balance between the interests of the state and the sustainability of small enterprises. This victory showcases not only Ika’s intellectual capabilities but also her dedication as a part-time student, successfully balancing work and study.

Dr. Fajar Sugianto, S.H., M.H., Head of the Law Program at UPH Surabaya Campus, expressed his pride in Ika’s achievement. “We are proud of Ika Fransisca’s accomplishment. This victory is proof that with hard work and strong determination, UPH students can achieve national-level success. We hope this achievement inspires other students to keep striving for success.”

Ika herself expressed her gratitude for the recognition she received. “I am truly grateful and honored to win this competition. Thanks to all my friends and lecturers at UPH for their guidance and support. If I hadn’t attended UPH, I might never have started writing.”

This achievement not only brings personal honor to Ika but also brings pride to Universitas Pelita Harapan, especially the Law Program at the Surabaya Campus. It serves as evidence that part-time students can also compete at the national level.
