The increasingly varied employment opportunities in the era of relentless technological innovation require accountants to be able to apply and develop their knowledge in various fields. A clear and directed vision in developing skills according to industry demands, beyond the competence of accountants, is basically necessary for the adaptation process in this technologically sophisticated era.

The Accounting Study Program Universitas Pelita Harapan Surabaya Campus presents the Webinar Series – “Accountant Professionals Visionary Matrix in High-Tech Era” which is a continuation of the Series Day I webinar which was successfully held on Friday, November 12, 2021. Held as a form of the Student Association of Accounting Study Program Work Program for UPH Surabaya Campus for the 2021 – 2022 period, this Series Day II webinar was successfully held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. This webinar was held online using the Zoom Meetings media due to conditions that did not allow face-to-face meetings.

As before, the event opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Ronald, ST, MM, CSMA., CDM., PMA., as Executive Director of Universitas Pelita Harapan Surabaya Campus, who had time to thank all parties and participants who made the Series Day I webinar a success and expressed his hope that this Series Day II webinar would also can go well. Also present were the Chair of the Accounting Study Program Universitas Pelita Harapan Surabaya Campus, Vierly Ananta Upa, S.E., MSA., Ak., CA., who warmly welcomed the speakers who were alumni of the UPH Accounting Study Program, Surabaya Campus.

This Webinar Series Day II again presents alumni of the Accounting Study Program Universitas Pelita Harapan Surabaya Campus, who are professionals in their fields. The first speaker was Monica Paulina, S.E. who spoke from her perspective regarding her personal opinion apart from her position as Capital Market Supervisor of the Indonesian Financial Services Authority.

“An accountant cannot be replaced by technology for me. For example, in choosing an account measurement method and estimates that exist in accounting activities, even to the auditor, all of them cannot be replaced by technology.”, he said in the presentation session on the topic “Embracing Advanced Technology to The Future of Capital Market” which was focused on discussing the scope of issuers and public companies. She also stated that accounting graduates have very wide job opportunities in the world of investment, in accordance with the Investment Law. The tips she gave before investing were to understand the regulators, recognize your own potential, choose products according to your needs, look at the legal aspects, and read carefully the product provisions.

Cristofer Enrico, S.Ak gave his perspective as a Junior Auditor at one of the KAP in Big 4 Accounting Firms, namely Ernest & Young (EY) Indonesia as a speaker in the second session.

“Technology is advancing. It is true that accountants cannot be replaced by technology, but that means we accountants must be more advanced than technology itself,” he said with emphasis. For him, data collection is very easy to do by technology, therefore humans, especially accountants, must be able to do more than that, for example analyzing data, processing information, to maintaining ethics and relationships with clients. Not giving up on problems is the main key to self-development, especially for an accountant in formulating a vision for the future.

Participants were given the opportunity to deepen the topic of discussion led by Frandy Efraim Fritz Karundeng, S.E., MSA., as a moderator at the question-and-answer session which was greeted with enthusiasm by the participants, although several questions had not been asked to be answered due to the many incoming questions. The whole series of events which were attended by various groups in Indonesia took place without any significant problems.
