VOXCOM’s Pre-Competition Concert.
The success of VOXCOM, a group of students from Conservatory of Music (CoM) Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) who came out as the first winner and have successfully gain 2 gold medals in the 6th Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) on last 2017 has encouraged this group of female singers to join the same competition in 2018. The group of female singers, VOXCOM joined the 7th BICF 2018 with the hope to come out as the first winner again. As a way to prepare themselves, they held a Pre-Competition Concert on May 28, 2018 in the D501 Building, UPH Lippo Village, Tangerang.
The concert was attended by approximately 400 audiences, consisted of students, lecturers and the public. VOXCOM performed 8 songs namely, Hymn: Be Thou My Vision, Amazing Grace, Corinthian Song, Love Our Self-Song: Beautiful and You Have More Friends, and competition songs such as Burn, Creek, and Rise Up. These eight songs are performed gracefully by these girls, accompanied with a special Saman dance performance by the Bireun Sedati Student Activity Unit (UKM) of UPH.
Sarita Marcellina Wurangian, the Voice Director of VOXCOM UPH said that the Pre-Competition Concert is the first ever to be held.
“This is our first Pre-Competition concert before our competition which will be held on the upcoming July 24-28, 2018. Last year we did not do this kind of concert. This concert was held to let the public know about us, what we have done, and what we have practiced for the upcoming competition. For preparation we keep doing our usual practice routine, we do reviews and we also added choreographies in some important parts to highlight the performance. It took 3 months roughly to prepare this Pre-Competition concert,” said Sarita.
Sarita also added that the member who participated in this year’s concert and competition are students from the Pop and Jazz music major, some of them also come from the composition major, one of the vocal lecturers also joined the team, and there is also one voice director. She also emphasized that each member was taught to not aim for winning, but to do their best.
“Being in this team takes a lot of sacrifices, we have to manage our time and have bonding time in order to know each other better. I see that the students in this team are ones with such great sense of responsibility. I am so proud of us,” Sarita stated.
VOXCOM is a place for female students who are interested in and who have talents in vocal, it’s a group directed especially for CoM female students. However, there are also opportunities for female students from other major to join the group and become a volunteer, then become a part of VOXCOM family.
Through this concert, Sarita and the team hopes that the audience and all parts of UPH can support all of VOXCOM’s effort in obtaining the best result in the 7th BICF 2018 on July 24-28, 2018, in Bali. (nl/mt)
