UPH Faculty of Medicine Held the “Advanced Management of Vascular and Brain Tumors” Symposium.
Universitas Pelita Harapan Faculty of Medicine (FK UPH) held a Symposium discussing the theme “Advanced Management of Vascular and Brain Tumors”, a biennial program designed to publicize the latest information in the field of neurosurgery
Neurosurgery is a field in the science of medicine that is related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sicknesses affecting the nervous system. Currently, very few neurosurgeons are under the Ikatan Ahli Bedah Saraf Indonesia, or the Association of Neurosurgeons in Indonesia (Ikabasi) – there are less than 150 people, and most of them reside in the Jakarta area.
Universitas Pelita Harapan Faculty of Medicine (FK UPH) held a Symposium discussing the theme “Advanced Management of Vascular and Brain Tumors”, a biennial program designed to publicize the latest information in the field of neurosurgery and to give participants a chance to learn and discuss with each other in the field.
The Symposium is held in a span of four days on May 25 to 28, 2018, in UPH Faculty of Medicine, Lippo Village and Cinemaxx MaxxBox Lippo Village. This Symposium is the second one held by UPH Faculty of Medicine. The first was held on 2016 with the theme ‘Surgical Neuroanatomy Lecture’.
This event consists of a Symposium, a Social Service 3D Cinema Lecturer, and Pekan Olahraga Nasional Perhimpunan Tim Bantuan Medis Mahasiswa Kedokteran Indonesia.
One of the most unique event in the Symposium is the 3D Cinema Lecture held in Cinemaxx MaxxBox Lippo Village on May 26, 2018. The 3D Cinema Lecture is led by leading names in the fields, two of them being Prof. Robert Spetzler MD. Ph.D., an expert in brain surgery from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, and Prof. Dr. Dr. dr. Eka J. Wahjoepramono Sp.BS. PhD – Dean of Universitas Pelita Harapan Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Spetzler spoke on three themes – ‘Neurosurgical Anatomy for Tumor and Vascular Approaches, Aneurysms and AVM Surgery, and Surgical Approaches for Brain Tumors. Prof. Wahjoeprahmono led the sessions on Surgery of Brain Stem Caernous Agioma, Aneurysm Surgery from Clippable to Unclippable, and tumor case. 3 other speakers – Dr. dr. Setyo Widi Sp.BS, Dr. dr. Julius July Sp.BS, M.Kes, and Dr. dr. Harsan Sp.BS – also take part in the 3D Lecture.
The Head of Event, Anthonius Christoper, student of UPH Faculty of Medicine 2015, explained that Cinemaxx MaxxBox Lippo Village is chosen as the venue for the 3D Lecture because this seminar is delivered using 3D visuals in order to attract the viewers’ attention more. The materials discussed are selected from the cases that have been encountered by the speakers which is believed to help participants learn about brain surgery management.
This public lecture is attended by around 350 participants from a wide range of backgrounds – students, doctors, specialist, nurses, staff, and parents.
This symposium partners and is sponsored by a number of companies – to name some of them, Zeiss, NBC Travel, PP Construction, Ika Farmindo, Indofood, and Millennium Village.
