FOXTROT SIX in UPH: Introducing the Practice of Interdisciplinary Knowledge in a Movie.

As the continuation of the previous Foxtrot Six Movie Seminar, once again, UPH invited the film industry people behind Foxtrot Six the Movie, an Indonesian produced Hollywood-quality action movie made by the director Randy Korompis.
This event was a part of a promotional campaign to introduce Foxtrot Six the movie which aims to share knowledge and insight of the process in making this movie from the script, promotion, and the marketing the movie to the public.
Unlike the other ones, the movie script of this original Indonesian’s work was able to attract the attention of Mario Kassar, one of Hollywood’s famous producer. He was also the produces behind a number of famous movies such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Rambo, Basic Instinct 2 and Total Recall. This was surely a thing to be proud of, because it takes a lot of hard works to make an international standard movie from just a movie script.
Because of those reasons, this seminar was held on February 11 in UPH Lippo Village with Rio Dewanto and Verdi Solaiman as the actors, and Andreas Ian Tika, as one of the producers; Mario Kassar was also present at the moment as the Executive Producer.
Alfiansyah Zulkarnain, the Head of UPH’s Visual Design Communication program, said that this event has surely become a great place for students to learn and for them to gain valuable experiences. Because in this seminar, students could learn about other programs such as Communication Sciences and Music.
“This seminar talked about process of making a movie from the very beginning until it can be seen by the public. It also talked about how this movie depicts the concept of interdisciplinary studies which incorporates various fields such as design, directing, music and business communication,” said Alfian to the students of UPH Conservatory of Music, UPH Faculty of Communication, and UPH Visual Communication Design.
Moreover, Alfian explained that interdisciplinary studies in this era is really crucial, and it is also a skill set that everybody in the industry has to obtain. “Hopefully, this event can open their insight and knowledge on more than just one discipline, both academically and practically so they can produce works that are useful for the nation and the country,” he stated.
In relation to interdisciplinary studies, Rio Dewanto also talked about what he has learned during his involvement in the Foxtrot Six project, he said that he learned a lot of things from Mario Kassar who has been wandering around in the Hollywood. He learned that from one product line, for example Foxtrot Six, we must think about all the things we can develop from it as early as possible. “We can project in into t-shirt, cap, hoodie, tote bag, merchandise and many other things. Thus, we actually can obtain funding from many sources,” said Rio.
In accordance to that, Mario Kassar also said that those who want to take more serious measures in the filming business have to be passionate. “It could be in directing, producing, and even acting, if it’s not your passion, then you should not just give up. Keep searching for your passion and try again and again until a path opens up. This also apply to other disciplines, be it medicine, law, business, and many more. Be passionate. You have to believe in yourself,” said Kassar.
