Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) continually strives to become an institution that contributes in an impactful way for the society. One of the tangible actions done to drive the university towards this goal is the management performance workshop held on August 8 and 9, under the theme ‘UPH SMART One Heart, One Voice’, with GML Performance Consulting acting as workshop consultants. The workshop took place on the 4th floor of UPH Lippo Karawaci’s HOPE building and was attended by the university and department leaders. The main purpose of the workshop is to map out definite goals that are targeted for the university to be achieved in the next few years.

The focus of UPH’s vision and mission is how the university can give the most lasting impact towards the society. One of the lines, taken from the university’s vision, was particularly resonant in the discussion: “To develop God-fearing, competent, and professional future leaders through excellent, holistic, and transformational education.” This statement represents what UPH puts an emphasis on: to not only produce quality graduates, but to shape leaders of the future that are competent and live with a fear of the Lord.

This workshop is where the leaders translate the vision and mission on paper. “It is indeed important to come up with a strategic plan that is holistic, but we also want to make sure that our plan can actually be implemented in the real world,” Lolla D Manurung, Project Manager of the UPH SMART initiative.

Lolla emphasizes the importance for every department in UPH to be on the same page when it comes to the implementation of the university’s vision and mission. “We have to make sure that all departments are walking towards the same endpoint. We should be able to draw a straight line connecting our goals as a university and the targets mapped out by each department. If this is achieved, we will be one step closer towards giving an even bigger impact to the people,” she continued.

At the end of the first phase, plans for the university level will be finalized. The workshop will then continue to the next phase, which will be concentrated on more specific goals for each department and study program. It is the university’s hope that this method can help UPH become the high-quality, impactful university it continues to strive into.
