UPH-Adira Insurance Collaboration on Workforce Development.

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) is collaborating with Adira Insurance in order to focus on the development of the actuarial workforce as agreed on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) contract signed on 14 May 2019. UPH was chosen as the first educational institute to collaborate with Adira Insurance in this actuarial development program, which was realized by the public insurance industry Adira Insurance Cooperation Education Program (AICOP).

The signing of the contract was carried out by UPH’s Chancellor, Dr. Jonathan L. Parapak and the Chief Executive Officer of Adira Insurance, Julian Noor, at the UPH Lippo Village campus. The collaboration is aimed to give opportunities to students in order to smoothly transition into the workforce, mainly in the public insurance industry.

Chancellor Parapak has high hopes for this collaboration, hoping that the implementation of this collaboration will be carried out as soon as possible. He said, “We welcome the collaboration that is happening between UPH and Adira Insurance. We expect that the signing will be done as soon as possible so that our students will get a feel on working in the public insurance industry. We believe that through this collaboration, we are able to support the students in raising their abilities and preparedness in facing global challenges, and to take part in the international world.”

To understand the scope of this collaboration, it was decided that through AICOP, Adira Insurance will prepare the students by providing them internship opportunities. With this, the interns will gain experience in working in the real world as they dive in existing projects of Adira Insurance. Furthermore, AICOP is also a program that helps students understand their work opportunities as an actuary in the public insurance industry.

Julian Noor asserts that the program is also a way to prepare the generations in being competitive. Noor stated that “The reason that the collaboration is being held is that it prepares a ready, competitive generation in the working world, mainly in the public insurance industry. Not only that, but this collaboration is also one of our strategies in preparing the actuarial workforce in Indonesia with the guidance of OJK and associates.”

AICOP has also become the response and preparation of the students in becoming a professional and competent actuary. The need for an actuarial workforce has been integrated into the POJK law No. 71/POJK.05/2016. This is definitely a great opportunity for UPH’s students.

Adira Insurance asserted that they are consistent in fulfilling this law through the employment of FSAI and CNLA certified workforce. The constant need for an actuarial workforce pushed Adira Insurance in developing collaboration with an educational institute, such as UPH.

Adding on Noor’s speech, the Chief Human Capital and Corporate Real Estate and Services (CRES) Officer at Adira Insurance, Hananta Praditya, said, “This collaboration is also a gateway for work programs such as the Management Trainee program and internships, which will help public universities in sharing knowledge to its students. Therefore, we are satisfied with this collaboration.”

The expansion of the collaboration of UPH and the industry was first brought up as a strategy by the Alumni and Corporate Relations Department at UPH, which always try to create opportunities for students so that they will understand the industrial world better. This was stated by Nursari Dewi Lugito, the Director of the Alumni and Corporate Department at UPH, “Our hope is so that UPH students will understand the marketplace before they graduate: how they experience it directly, apply the lessons learned at school, and how they can transition into the workforce. This is what we want to achieve.
