Doctors and Caretakers Graduate from UPH Enters the Top Percentile in Competency Tests.

The medical faculty of Universitas Pelita Harapan (FK UPH) have received brilliant achievements by obtaining a UKMPPD graduation rate of 97%. This achievement is also obtained by the nursing faculty of UPH, which achieved a UKMPPD graduation rate of 95%. This exciting news was delivered by UPH’s Chancellor Jonathan L. Parapak at the end of the oath ceremony for 81 new doctors on 30 April 2019 at the FK UPH Lippo Karawaci campus.

The achievement placed UPH’s medical and nursing faculties on the list of universities with the best graduation rates in Indonesia. The competency test is a procedure that medical and nursing majors must take in order to obtain the diploma, which will allow them to work in the professional workforce. Afterward, they will intern for a year in order to receive their official practice permit. The policy was integrated by the government in order to guarantee the quality of doctors and nurses in serving the citizens.

It was observed that this year’s achievements by the UPH medical and nursing faculties have improved from last year, which was a graduation rate of 90%. This success is the result of the cooperation between many involved parties, who are determined in preparing future doctors and nurses. These parties range from professors to educational institutes.

There were a few factors that played a role in supporting the students, revealed dr. Andree Kurniawan, the Deputy Dean of FK UPH, such as the program studies of FK UPH, excellent learning facilities, as well as superb professors who are dedicated in the medical and academic world.

UPH has excellent facilities that help students learn medical science. For example, the FK UPH has integrated into the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology (MRIN) research facility and the Rumah Sakit Umum (RSU) Siloam, a public teaching hospital for the students. The learning system of Problem Based Learning (PBL) which was asserted by FK UPH is a good program because it pushes the students to be active and to practice in a clinic to receive one on one training with an instructor. This allows the students to receive comprehension knowledge.

The Dean of the nursing faculty at UPH, Grace Solely Houghty, commented about how the students’ prestige is supported by committed parties who are intimately linked in their academic and non-academic processes.

“As of now, the professional curriculum and test questions are fairer so that students can be better prepared. This is done through the case studies we increasingly give the students. Students also participate in written tests and computer-based tests (CBT),” Grace explained.

The UPH nursing faculty is also equipped with adequate facilities, such as the simulation labs, libraries, language labs, and computer labs.

“The computer labs are compatible with the standard national CBT, making the UPH nursing faculty the center of the Ners competency test held by the government,” Grace stated.

Currently, UPH has produced more than 1000 doctors and 800 nurses who pledged to work in various medical institutions within and outside of Indonesia. Some graduates of FK UPH have also returned to campus in order to serve in education. To the doctors and nurses who have been sworn in, Chancellor Parapak encourages them to be active in contributing to the medical world and to be an impact on the public.
