HP Collaborates with UPH Visual Communication Design Talked about Content Creator.

The digital technology trend is always interesting to talk about from various point of views. This time, UPH talked about how the convenience of digital technology has opened the opportunities for content creator photographer. The topic was presented by an experienced photographer, Nicole Patricia. This event was initiated by HP with Brilio.net for HP Goes to Campus for the Mentorship Project program. UPH was the first campus which was chosen by HP and Brilio to held this event on February 14, 2019 in the D building, UPH Lippo Village.
“For me, Content Creator Photographer is a person who can inspire others through their work and communicate their ideas. Unlike those who do photography as a hobby, they also create works, but they do it for themselves and not necessarily to be delivered to the people. The most important key for a content creator photography is not just the work, but how can they inspire others to do what they do or understand the message of the content they created,” said Nicole
Aside from being a media that delivers message and inspiration, Nicole also stated that the career opportunity is widely opened in this field, especially nowadays. This was also affected by the social media and the rapid movement on Indonesian local brands.
“Every day, a new local brand appears in Indonesia and it sure will need promotional material, be it photos or videos; so here’s the chance! Moreover, nowadays, advanced photography equipment can be obtained more easily. By the end, the competition will eventually get higher. Everyone can be a photographer and everyone wants to try this field. But if you guys are able to create and present original works, you might be able to offer a different taste and spread positive message,” said Nicole.
Through this event, Nicoline talked about the steps in creating an inspiring photography piece and one that can adjust any necessity. According to Nicole, there no such thing as a lucky shot, every good photo has to go through a careful planning. This includes conceptualizing, pre-production process which includes pre-production envision the scene, ensuring property and styling, determining location and situation- which will need a thorough research, and collecting photo references. Then, we enter the production or photoshoot step; this step requires flexibility and problem solving ability from the content creator because a lot of possibilities might happen on set. Lastly, we have to do the post-production step, in which we select the best photos and proceeds to editing afterwards.
About this program, Wirda Haryani, Country Marketing Manager of HP, said that this event becomes an opportunity for HP to visit campuses in relation to the HP Mentorship Project.
“I we were asked, why do we choose UPH as the first campus for this event? I can only answer, why not? We have known that UPH is a well-known campus in Indonesia, and though it’s my first time coming here, I can say that this campus is really cool. Moreover, this campus also have programs and communities that can support photography-related activities. We really hope that this program can bring positive impacts for many,” said Wirda.
HP Mentoring Project is a place for people who wants to be content creator in Photography and Film-making (video). For those who are interested in photograph, there would be a presentation and mentoring by Nicoline, and for Film-making, there was a material presentation by Angga Dwimas Sasongko. This Mentoring Project involved the public to participate by submitting their work to HP. Five best photography works will be chosen and funded by HP. Through this program, HP hopes that UPH students are able to participate in this program.
According to Levina Amelia, Chief Marketing Brilio.net, content creators are really important these days, because commercial contents can’t do hard-selling anymore; compared to that, it would be way more interesting to polish the content softly and include a story with it. Thus, hopefully this program can inspire the students.
Upon welcoming this program, Chandra Djoko as one of the photography lecturer in UPH Visual Communication Design major considered this program as a way to enhance students’ insight and inspiration. Moreover, the topic chosen for this program was in line with the current subject studied in the curriculum. From UPH’s point of view, for Chandra, it was an honor for UPH to be chosen by HP and Brilio as host, compared to other universities Binus, Trisakti, and UI.
“This program was a commitment of UPH Visual Communication Design to equip its students with academic abilities, and also with the real-life application of the knowledge they’ve obtained in accordance to the millennial’s trends and opportunities,” Chandra explained. (mt)
